The STFU Entry

In between getting and adapting to the radical change from mostly solitary lady o' leisure to cube monkey cat herder, I haven't written much. But I'm in a STFU mood about the Republicans so figured I'd at least get something out there.

For six years the Republicans were in total control of the government. During that time they did absolutely nothing to reform healthcare. As a result, private insurance companies rationed health care. People at insurance companies decided who should live and who should die. The latter were most likely the elderly and poor children. During these six years (and all while Republicans were in control of Congress since '94) Republicans couldn't have given two shiny shits about people dying. Now they accuse Obama of death panels that will kill the elderly and Sarah Palin's baby boy? Under their control of government, they already were. So STFU.

Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity. Leaving health insurance to the private insurers as we have for so long is insanity. But then again, we always knew they were nuts. That's why we call them right wingnuts. So STFU about private enterprise solving every problem. We know it doesn't, 'cause we're not insane. We see and learn and change.

Oh, and STFU about comparing Obama to Hitler for trying to solve the healthcare problem and STFU about what Rahm Emanual said about not letting a crisis go to waste. He was only borrowing from the Republican playbook about not letting 9/11 go to waste and trying to implement a really totalitarian regime in this country (you know, where presidential power includes stripping citizens of habeas corpus, holding citizens indefinitely, and spying on citizens without a warrant). Particularly STFU when we got the word of what we've known all along, now from the former head of Homeland Security that Bush used terror alerts for political gain.

Normally, I don’t respond to your blog posts, but today you’ve chapped my ass. The six years that the GOP was in charge were consumed with 9/11 and it’s aftermath and Iraq. Why? Because the Anti-War Left made it so. NOTHING was more important than protesting the war. When Social Security reform was lofted by GWB, it was summarily shot down by Dems, who offered NO alternative that would have any real effect on the Ponzi scheme disaster that is SS. Now that BO is in office, the fervent Anti-War Left is…well…kinda gone…cause wars are okay as long as Dems are in power…so NOW healthcare is the new moral imperative. And many think that this healthcare reform is merely the first step to the single payer system favored by Obama (his words that he now denies…videotape is a real bitch) that would give the Dems a new scare tactic to use in future elections (If you vote for GOP, they will take away your Medicare, Social Security, Healthcare, Whatever). The scare tactics used by the Bush admin in 2004 according to Tom Ridge should be exposed and condemned, as should the scare tactics used by every political group throughout history attempting to get/stay in power. The real problem with Republicans in this fight is that they are ignoring valid alternatives that have been proposed by members of their own party in an effort to kill these bills. But then again, the Party of No mentality is one of the reasons the Dems were swept back into power in 06, and never let it be said that the GOP can’t learn from the masters. The core problem with this healthcare fight is that people…regular, rank and file people…are reading the bill, and what they read does not jibe with the words that are coming out of the mouths of Congress and the President. They’ve been suckered before, and they aren’t keen to be fooled again.

And as for blaming the market for the run-up in health insurance, please investigate the drop in Medicare reimbursements over the last 15 years and the correlating impact on the increase in charges being passed off to private insurers and thusly, the consumer. In addition to government mandates on what must be covered that varies from state to state and the inability of the consumer to buy a policy from a company in another state, you have a health care mess that CAN be addressed using free market solutions.

And the right wing didn’t compare Obama to Hitler. It was the far left Lyndon LaRouche group that made that poster. Check it.

And as for Rahm Emmanuel and not letting a crisis go to waste, the GOP, according to you, tried to construct a totalitarian regime that infringed on our rights. The Dems want a regime that infringes on our energy sources and our ability to freely make decisions about our HEALTH. Is either really worse than the other?

Mandy, you can comment whenever you like, chapped ass or otherwise ;-).

The anti-war left is not gone, it's that the wars are being drawn down and the anti-war left is being responded to.

Healthcare has been the moral imperative of the left for decades. And the Republicans have been in power in Congress for six years prior to 9/11 and they still did nothing about healthcare.

"The real problem with Republicans in this fight is that they are ignoring valid alternatives that have been proposed by members of their own party in an effort to kill these bills."

Agree entirely, so why does my STFU attidude about them chap your ass?

"The Dems want a regime that infringes on our energy sources and our ability to freely make decisions about our HEALTH. Is either really worse than the other?"

We have no ability to freely make decisions about our health now, so yes, I'd like to see changes and I don't mind and in fact support a private/public combination solution. As for energy, energy is a shared infrastructure with shared benefits and costs and requires long term strategic planning, not just tactical profit-motivated tacks. Again, I am a supporter of the free market but do not believe government doesn't have a role in certain areas.

Thanks for commenting m'dear!
